Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd and Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) of Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding on February 18 regarding construction of planned urban railways. The ceremony was held in Hanoi attended by relevant officials including President of Japanese Subway Operator Yoshimitsu Oku and MRB director Nguyen Quang Manh. Tokyo Metro will offer technical assistance on construction, management and operation of the railways as well as human resource and information exchange.

“We are determined to support MRB and aim at successful railway operation in Hanoi by offering our long-built know-hows on urban railways. We wish to contribute to further development of the capital and the country and enhance the friendship between the two countries,” Mr. Oku said at the ceremony. Director Manh addressed that he hoped to create comprehensive and long-term collaboration with Tokyo Metro, which is the most favorable partner to realize effective operation of Hanoi’s urban railways.

Tokyo Metro and Japan International Consultants for Transportation Co. Ltd. received a contract named “Technical Assistance Project to Strengthen the Capacity of Regulator and to Establish Operation and Maintenance of Metropolitan Railway Lines in Hanoi City” last year from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The two sides will accelerate collaborative works toward establishment of an agency to manage and operate the three planned and under-construction lines in the coming time. (2014/02/20)
