MLIT to Cooperate on Land Development in Surrounding Yangon Station, Myanmar

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan will offer assistance to the government of Myanmar regarding urban development in the area of Yangon Station, the largest terminal in the country. Taking advantage of Japan’s experiences in metropolitan cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, the ministry plans to provide know-hows on comprehensive development of the train station and the surrounding area. Development plans are to be established and proposed by the ministry, which is expected to push Japanese companies to Myanmar’s real estate business.


Although Yangon Station, a part of the national Loop Line, is a gateway to the city considered to have great potential for development, only deteriorated public housings and the railroad yard stand in the current area. The government of Myanmar asked for assistance to Japan in order to implement effective development. The Land Ministry will commission the investigation work to the private sector. (2014/03/04)
