A 60-story super high rise in Higashi-Ikebukuro, Tokyo will be renovated into long-period quake resisting building using three kinds of dampers. Supervised by Mitsubishi Jishyo Sekkei Inc. and Kajima Corp., the construction work will be undertaken by Kajima Corp. When the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in 2011, the long-period earthquake lasting more than 10 minutes was detected in Tokyo, which is far from the hypocenter.
Sunshine 60, a 230 meter-tall sky scraper was built in 1978, having 190,595m2 total floor area. High-performance oil dampers and steel honeycomb dampers will be installed at the outside evacuation balconies, while newly-developed controlling dampers will be added to beams inside the center ceilings. Total number of dampers installed reaches 666. The work is slated to complete in September 2016. It is the first renovation work in Japan to undertake quake resisting renovation against long-period shakes using three different kinds of dampers. (2014/03/06)
