Japanese heavy equipment manufacturer IHI completed a pier in Kagoshima Port which can accommodate large ships to deliver fuel to the biomass power plant being developed by the company. The new 10-meter deep pier was constructed by Tokyo-based Mirai Construction. The 225-meter pier has pre-stressed concrete girders supported by steel pipe piles which were installed by ships.
Nanatsu-jima Biomass Power Plant was founded by a group of companies led by IHI. The 49mw plant, set to open in 2018 is expected to reduce 200,000 tons CO2 emission annually, generating electricity equivalent to consumption of 77,000 households. (2017/07/11)
