An extension of the terminal building at Tokyo International Airport, or Haneda Airport is completed. An operator, Tokyo International Air Terminal Corp. (TIAT) unveiled the building to the press on March 13. A satellite building and boarding spots were added, increasing total floor space from 159,000m2 to 236,000m2. It is slated for open in March 30.
Five packages of works were commissioned to contractors including Taisei Corp. and Takenaka Corp. A joint venture of Azusa Sekkei Co., Yasui Architects & Engineers, Inc. and Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects Japan, Inc. designed the extension.
Huge glass panels are applied to the sides and the ceiling is made of films. The building houses open spaces inside, picturing the image of sky. Photovoltaic panels are installed on the roof, generating more than 1000kw in total.
TIAT opened the construction site of a hotel in the terminal area to the press on the day. Royal Park Hotel the Haneda being built by Taisei Corp.will has 8 floors with 11,642m2 total space. The hotel is scheduled to start commercial operation in September. (2014/03/17)
